C-U Potters' Club
October 16, 2011 Membership Meeting

Members Present: Jay, Rebecca, Paul, Amber, Laura I., Chen, Jeri, Cathy C., Bev, Rachel, Colleen, Irena, Deepa, Deb (and maybe somebody else I forgot to write down... hmmmm)

Officers Reports:
Secretary- Sept minutes approved. Motion to approve by Amber, second by Cathy C.
Treasurer- Report on-line. Budget stable at this time.
Membership- Crystal unable to attend. 1 new member has joined since term began and Stephanie Sopka has left. 3 class members are expected to join the club at the completion of class.
Standing Committee reports: Firing- Lots of recent firing. New shelves are in use. New cookies are being made. Question about a coating for the sealing rope. No one at meeting had information re: same. Mai is doing research on Raku in preparation for Raku firing in the spring. Discussion of offering a Raku workshop at some point.

Glaze- Several glazes have been made recently, 3 of them by Don! 25# of Wollastonite is needed- if anyone is going to be near a ceramics supply store please let Bev know. Problems reported with Tracy's Blue running. Test tiles/pieces will be rechecked.

Clay- Cathy is working up the Raku clay and about 25# is currently ready for use. Discussion of plaster chipping on clay tables with suggestion to line tables with canvas to prevent plaster contamination and make clay removal easier. This will be done. PLEASE break down boxes and put them in the basement if you take the last brick out of a box!

Clean up and maintenance- Some extra tasks discussed last month are not being done due to loss of committee members. These will be added as members become available. Problems reported with clay left on slab roller and discussion of using a cover to protect surface of roller table. Try to remember not to place pieces or dirty bats on the roller table!

Web site- Holiday sales dates will be added.

Sales- Amber has been photographing pieces for gallery. Let her know if you have pieces you would like photographed. Table covers are being repaired by Amber's mom... THANKS MOM!!

President's report- Rachel will ask property owner for a sump pump cover, weather strip for the front door, new vent covers for the broken ones, and furnace filter to be replaced. Indi-Go Gallery has openings for a spring show. Will consider CUPC show there the last weekend of April. Members encouraged to go by and check out the space and begin making pieces for a show. Pieces can be offered for sale if the member desires. 20% will go to the gallery.

Old Business: Individual sales- Vote on proposed change to by-laws. Deletion of Bylaws Section B number 8 under "Rules" is passed with all in attendance in favor except one abstention.
Note: Discussion around individual sales led to discussion of studio supply usage/overuse and donation of finished pieces. Plans made to add a list in the donation room for members to record donated pieces. PLEASE look for this and write down your donations!

Guest Policy- Proposed by-laws change to state: "Members may have one to two working guests in the studio per visit, who are age 18 or over, have signed a waiver and have paid the designated fee to the club. The host member is responsible for appropriate studio use and clean up." This was passed unanimously. Fee is under discussion with a small "per visit" fee being considered. Jeri's suggestion (to begin discussion!): perhaps $5 per visit with an increase to $10 if > 10# clay used at the visit? Please email input R/T fee to the club list!

Urbana Adult Ed. class will be continued for a second session.

T-shirt update- Ideas are presented by Paul and Laura I. All options are fabulous and the club is grateful for the work involved. Decision to go with Laura's designs was made based on cost as Laura can screen them herself. Pictures will be sent out to the list of the two designs from which members can choose. IF YOU WANT A CLUB T-SHIRT you should get a plain T-shirt in your size and color choice to Laura by November 9th!! Shirts can be labeled with your name and choice of design and left in a designated box in the studio... I don't know where it will be... LOOK AROUND!!! :) Photos of the two designs will be sent out to the list soon. T-shirts are on sale for $2.50 this week at Michaels! THANKS to PAUL, LAURA and CATHY for this work!!

New Business:
Next Open Studio- Sunday, November 13, 2011, 3p.m.- 5.p.m.

Next meeting: November 30, 2011, 7 p.m., Champaign Library Robeson Rooms A&B. If you bring in a T-shirt for printing it will be ready at the meeting! WooHoo!! NOTE: THIS IS 5TH WEDNESDAY DUE TO THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY!
