C-U Potters' Club
  August 24, 2011  Minutes

Members present- Rachel, Jeri, Kathy N-S, Amber, Deepa, Paul, Chen, Don, Jay, Cathy C., Irena, Colleen, Crystal, Kristy, Andrea, Lynn, Lauren, Amy. WELCOME NEW AND RETURNING MEMBERS!!
Officers Reports:
  Secretary- approval of July minutes- Motion by Cathy Cunningham, second- Kathy Nicol-Smith
**Clean-up and Maintenance report here by request**- Linda presents 5 dates for the studio reorientation times. Members present to sign up tonight and Linda will contact other members for scheduling.
 
 Treasurer- Error in on-line report will be corrected and report re-posted. Utilities are down due to decreased firings so budget is OK for now.
 Membership-discussion of when fees are due, late fees etc. Adult Ed. class participants who join as new members will be offered half session fees for the time remaining in the fall session after the class ends.

Standing Committee reports:
    Firing- Problems reported with glazes running due to glaze type and/or application. Kristy offers to do a general glazing workshop to help alleviate glazing/firing problems visual reminders will be posted in the glaze area. Ask Firing Committee members if you have questions about glazing and firing! Jay is replacing the kiln lid, getting Kristy's smaller kiln ready to fire and making new shelves. Please check that your mark is posted on the list in firing area so that committee can contact you with questions about your pieces.
    Glaze- Bev will label glazes that tend to run. Club just received some free glaze materials and a reduced cost on one item. Discussion of using low fire glazes. Those using same will consider mini-workshop for club. 
     Clay- problem with the pug mill is being checked. Cathy is cleaning out and working up the Raku clay. Discussion of Raku/Pit firing this fall, possibly with Parkland.
    Website- Open studio days will be posted. 
    Sales- no report at this time. 
  
President's report- Landlord remains pleased with having CUPC as tenants. She has recently changed AC filters.

Old Business: 
  - Update on Urbana Adult Ed class- Class begins Sept. 27, 2011 and continues for 6 weeks on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. 6 people are currently enrolled and the maximum enrollment is 8. Studio will be crowded on these evenings and class members will have priority for use of equipment and space, but CUPC members are welcome to come in as needed and to observe class. Art Coop has offered a 20%  discount coupon to each class member for purchase of pottery tools. These will be good for 30 days. 
  - Guest policy fee and waiver- discussion to take place on-line. ( By the day after the meeting a waiver form had been proposed and discussion initiated. See CUPC Google group email for further info.)
- individual sales discussion will be pursued as there is interest.
- "Taste" contacts were referred to Urbana Adult Ed for class info. 
  - Individual sales group? 
  - Contacts from Taste for interest in club or future sales?
  
   
 New Business:  
 - Next open studio date- Sunday Sept. 11, 2011, 3-5 p.m. Rachel will be in studio and 1 or 2 others are needed. sign up will be on-line or in studio. 
- Lincoln Square holiday sales- Rachel will get information for this option. 
-November meeting date will be Wednesday November 30, 2011 instead of the usual 4th Wednesday which is the day before Thanksgiving.
